Rain Plan

I want to reassure you that even if it rains, you will still have beautiful portraits! I know that rain isn’t ideal, and no bride would wish for rain on their big day, but if it happens, it happens... and it’s going to be just fine. It ultimately means we all need to be flexible and be ready to pivot plans if a storm rolls in and risks losing the natural daylight.

One of the most frequently asked questions that we receive during wedding season is “Soooo, what do we do if it RAINS?!”

All we need to create natural light portraits on a rainy wedding day is an area to keep you dry with access to the light:

Atrium area or narthex

Porch

  • Pack a set of umbrellas for each pair of bridesmaid and groomsmen. Keep the tags on them so you can easily return them if you don’t end up needing to use them on the wedding day.

  • Clear umbrellas work best. Otherwise you could choose umbrellas in your wedding colors to tie in your wedding theme into the rainy day.

  • Designate an usher or sibling to help cover you as you move between locations. We appreciate when they help hold the umbrellas over us too so we can keep giving you great images while keeping our gear dry.

  • Take it one step at a time. Don’t think about your entire day and what will happen if it rains. That will only overwhelm you! Definitely have a rain plan for your venue, but then let your vendors do the work of handling the rest of the day if rain is in the forecast.

rainy day tips

Lord, if it is within your will,
bless us with temperatures around ____ degrees,
subside the wind for little to no breeze,
bring thin clouds for bright skies with soft light,
and stop the rain between the hours of ___ and ___.

Keep the weather conditions safe for all those traveling into town for the wedding, so that we may celebrate the sacrament of marriage together and glorify you in all we do.

Amen.

After you prepare all that is within your control, turn to God for His.

We have seen God work literal miracles on a wedding day that flipped the weather forecast on its head. The important part about it is to pray SPECIFICALLY for the weather on your wedding day. We will be joining you in that prayer!
